When it’s time for your next oil change, our certified technicians are here to help you select the proper Ford Escape oil type and ensure your vehicle is equipped with a clean, high-quality Ford Escape oil filter.
Ford Escape Oil Type: Which Oil Type is Best?
Ford recommends using Motorcraft® motor oil for Ford vehicles, including the Ford Escape. Owned and operated by the Ford Motor Company, Motorcraft® produces mostly synthetic or synthetic-blended oils that are optimally formulated for use in Ford and Lincoln vehicles. On most Ford Escape models, Ford recommends that Perry drivers use Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 or 5W-30 fully synthetic motor oil.
If you’re wondering what those numbers and letters mean, “W” stands for “winter,” and the numbers to the left and right sides refer to oil viscosity—in cold weather and at normal operating temperatures, respectively. Since oil tends to thicken at low temperatures and thin at high temperatures, look for low numbers to the left and high numbers to the right of the “W.” This signifies oil that stays thin enough to run when cold and thick enough to provide lubrication when hot.
If you’re unsure of the oil capacity of the Ford Escape and don’t know how much engine oil you need to purchase, check your owner’s manual for the exact details. The oil capacity of the Ford Escape varies based on which engine you have. That said, you can generally expect the Ford Escape oil capacity to range between 5.0 and 6.0 quarts (with filter), so purchasing about 6.0 quarts per oil change should be a safe bet.
Ford Escape Oil Filter: What Product Number Do I Need?
When you shop for a Ford Escape oil filter, search for the part number “S3614.” This product number refers to an oil filter from Shell Technology Products (STP) designed and fitted for specific Ford vehicles, including the Escape.
As was the case when finding the correct oil type, however, always check your owner’s manual for the most accurate information regarding which oil filter to use. You can also contact us and speak with the experts who staff our parts and service center for additional advice.
Ford Escape Oil Reset
If you decide to do a DIY oil change at home in Bonaire, don’t forget to finish with an oil reset! This simply involves resetting the oil change light on your Ford Escape after an oil change. Doing so helps keep track of your oil so you know when to get it changed again.
Consult the steps below to perform an oil reset on your Ford Escape, but don’t forget to check your owner’s manual for details before attempting this on your own.
To perform a Ford Escape oil reset:
- Park your Escape in a safe position and make sure the engine is off.
- If you have a key ignition, turn the key to the “On” position without starting the engine; if you have a push-button start, push the “Start/Stop” button once without pressing the brake or the accelerator.
- Once your key is turned to the “On” position or once you’ve pushed the “Start/Stop” button once, fully press and hold both the brake and accelerator pedals simultaneously.
- Hold both pedals and watch your dashboard. You should see a message saying the oil life reset is in progress. After 20-30 seconds, the process should be complete, and you should see a message on your screen indicating this.
- Release both pedals and turn off the ignition.
