The Ford Mustang carries 52 years of pleasing performance into the 2017 model year. It’s one of the most exciting sports coupes on the road, but it’s also much more than just a muscle machine. Recent changes to the interior design and the addition of some of the latest in high-tech advancements have allowed the Mustang to keep pace with all rivals, both foreign and domestic.
The popular V6 trim certainly has the horsepower to get your arm hairs standing on end, but many folks have fallen in love with the EcoBoost. This version has a smaller engine but gets much better fuel mileage, and there are several convenience feature options that aren’t available on the base trim. The following summarizes the main difference between the two models.

The 2017 Ford Mustang V6 trim comes with a 3.7L V6 engine that puts out a total of 300 horsepower. The six-speed automatic or manual transmission sends the power to the rear wheels. The automatic transmission version includes paddle shifters. This base engine delivers enough power to please most buyers, but if you want to increase the ponies, you’ll have to choose the GT trims with their 5.0L V8. If you’d like to combine the Mustang’s legendary appearance with a more prudent skipper of an engine, choose the EcoBoost. This trim features a 2.3L turbocharged engine that makes 310 horsepower while at the same time offering up to 31 mpg on the highway. Whichever you choose, you’ll appreciate the smooth-shifting and composed ride. Acceleration is more than acceptable, and it’s worth noting that the EcoBoost goes from zero to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds.
Both the 2017 Ford Mustang V6 and EcoBoost are available as either a coupe or convertible. The V6 comes with alloy wheels, xenon headlights, and a limited-slip rear differential. Other standard features include air conditioning, cruise control, and keyless ignition. The interior is lined with above-average quality materials, and the only gripe you may have is the rather cramped rear seating area. The rearview camera is auto-dimming, and the central display screen is coupled to the Sync voice control system. Optional on the V6 and standard on the EcoBoost is 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and a power driver’s seat. The EcoBoost also features the aforementioned turbocharged engine as well as aluminum dashboard trim and a very impressive active noise cancellation upgrade.

Regardless of whether you choose the V6 or EcoBoost, the Mustang comes with antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, and a rearview camera. Both the driver and front passenger are protected by knee airbags, and the coupe versions have side-curtain bags in addition to the front-seat side airbags included on both the coupe and convertible. The manual transmission models have hill-start assist. The EcoBoost Premium version comes with adaptive cruise control as an optional feature. The EcoBoost, when equipped with the optional performance package, also has one of the shortest 60 mph-to-zero stopping distances in this vehicle class, an impressive 108 feet.
